Review: love, and you by Gretchen Gomez

one day i met a guy
who stole my heart,
we created a world
for ourselves.
and another day
he broke my heart
and shattered
my soul.

i took the tattered
pieces of this
broken soul and
became anew.

– here lies the hurting, the healing, and the learning

love, and you is the debut published collection of poetry by Gretchen Gomez and it was beautiful. So, so beautiful. I read through it within hours and I tabbed so many poems that I absolutely loved and adored. I think that this was an amazing debut by Gretchen and I can’t wait to read whatever she releases in the future!

This collection of poetry was breathtaking. Each poem was so raw, so real, so brutally honest. It was obvious that Gretchen poured her heart and her soul into these poems and I could feel every emotion that she conveyed radiate off of the pages. Poetry has always been a form of art that I appreciated purely because of the honesty expressed within each line and the unspoken words that are ebbed in between them, yet this collection of poetry took my appreciation to a whole new level due to its sheer candor and poignant style of writing.

I was able to heavily relate to some poems, while I learned from others. The words that Gretchen entwined together within this book are important, relevant, and stunning. I definitely recommend this collection, especially to women of any age. Here are a few of my favorite selections from love, and you. Each poem was so intricately put together and gripping, but these are the ones that really stuck out to me and emotionally captured me.

“the most dangerous
humans are the
women who realize
they don’t need
anyone after facing
the hurricane alone”

“i found
in my

i found
self love
in my

“my tears created an ocean
and one day i swam
through that ocean
and made it to shore

– on my own without you”

“i learned that life lets you
meet people in order to
find yourself

and sometimes you just
come out stronger than
before because that’s
what life wanted out
of you.
