Book Tag: The 2016 Mid-Year Book Freakout Tag

Hello everyone!

For this week’s book tag, I’ve decided to complete the 2016 Mid Year Book Freakout Tag! This tag was created by Chami from ReadLikeWildfire (watch her video here) and Ely from Ely Jayne (watch her video here).

I decided to complete this tag because it’s basically the middle of 2016 and I’ve been wanting to do a mid-year book update/tag like this for a while, so I’m so glad that I stumbled upon this tag whilst browsing BookTube last night.

Also, today was the last day of BookTube-A-Thon, meaning I’ll be uploading a wrap-up and mini-reviews of the books that I read tomorrow, and then I’ll be back to my normal schedule of weekly reviews!

1. Best book you’ve read so far in 2016.

This is honestly such a hard question because I’ve read so many amazing books this year. I’ve basically discovered every amazing YA series that has been released in the past few years, so I’m not sure if I can only pick just one book as my answer. Therefore, regarding books that were released before 2016, my favorites were definitely the Shatter Me trilogy by Tahereh Mafi (aka my all-time favorite series), the Mortal Instruments series and Infernal Devices trilogy by Cassandra Clare, and many more series. When it comes to books that have been released in 2016 (so far) the best one that I’ve read is most definitely A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J. Maas!

2. Best sequel you’ve read so far in 2016.

While I’m going to try not to use the same books as my answers for these questions, I definitely have to pick A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J. Maas for this one! Some honorable mentions go to The Rose & the Dagger by Renée Ahdieh and Glass Sword by Victoria Aveyard!

3. New release you haven’t read yet, but want to.

This Savage Song by Victoria Schwab was just recently released and I really want to read it! I haven’t read any of Victoria’s other books, but I’ve read really great reviews about this one. I have the ARC of it, so I’ll probably be reading it soon.

4. Most anticipated release for the second half of the year.

So many! I’m really looking forward to Furthermore by Tahereh Mafi, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child by J.K. Rowling, and Tales from the Shadowhunter Academy by Cassandra Clare.

5. Biggest disappointment.

Probably November 9 by Colleen Hoover. I know this book was released late last year, but I bought it and tried reading it a few months ago after hearing so much hype about it and I found myself really disliking the characters and not being able to connect with the story. (There were also several extremely problematic elements within this novel that I could not disregard.)

6. Biggest surprise.

Probably The Crown by Kiera Cass. Don’t get me wrong, I really love the original Selection trilogy, but I wasn’t that big of a fan of The Heir. However, I really ended up liking The Crown!

7. Favorite new author (debut or new to you).

There are so many so I’m just going to list a few: Tahereh Mafi, Cassandra Clare, Michelle Hodkin, Sarah J. Maas, and many more.

8. Newest fictional crush.

Warner from Shatter Me, Rhysand from A Court of Mist and Fury, Gansey from The Raven Boys, Noah from The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer… Just to name a few…

9. Newest favorite character.

Magnus Bane. For obvious reasons.

10. Book that made you cry.

Me Before You by Jojo Moyes. Once again, for obvious reasons.

11. Book that made you happy.

Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda by Becky Albertalli, that book is one of the best YA contemporaries I’ve ever read.

12. Most beautiful book you’ve bought (or received) so far this year.

My ARC of The Sun Is Also a Star by Nicola Yoon, I love the gorgeous cover of that book so much!

13. What books do you need to read by the end of the year?

Definitely the Throne of Glass books by Sarah J. Maas that have been released so far, the rest of the Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling, Cinder by Marissa Meyer, and Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs!

14. Favorite book community member.

There is a certain Bookstagrammer that I’d like to give a shoutout to: Lily from @DestructiveReads. She’s my best friend and her Bookstagram account is absolutely gorgeous! Make sure to go give her a follow.

So, that’s the end of this tag! I hope you all enjoyed it and comment below with your favorite read of 2016 (so far).

  1. Interesting choices. I’ve been thinking I’ll give Shatter Me another try so I’ll see how that goes. I said Simon vs the Homosapiens agenda for a book that made me happy too lol It was pretty cute ☺
